Carrancas do Sertão: Signos de Ontem e de Hoje

This article makes reference to the figureheads, sculptures in wood, used in the boats of the submedium São Francisco River since the late nineteenth century; their representative evolution as Brazilian popular art and mythical meanings; its appropriation by advertising language and the media as icon / symbol of the region and its cultural and commercial importance to the craftwork.*
